Maine Fishing Guides
Maine is the northeast's last true frontier for fishing. Brook trout are the native prize, but landlocked salmon, smallmouth bass, and lake trout round out a four-season fishery.

Historic fly fishing birthplace (the Rangeley streamer was invented here). Mooselookmeguntic and Rangeley Lake hold trophy brook trout.
Maine fishing by season
Spring
Ice-out on the lakes triggers aggressive feeding. Brook trout and salmon are near the surface in cold water. This is when the big ones are most accessible.
Summer
Warm water pushes trout deep in lakes; stream fishing is best early and late. Smallmouth bass on rivers and lakes is outstanding. Blueberry season on the barrens.
Fall
Brook trout spawn run — the males turn vivid orange and red. Landlocked salmon run in tributaries. Peak foliage makes for spectacular riverside scenery.
Winter
Ice fishing is a major tradition. Tip-ups on the big lakes for salmon, trout, and togue (lake trout). Many guides switch to ice by January.
